This Must Be The Place Where Truth Is Marching In - Ruminations On The Totality Of Being
I like to imagine that David Byrne is stuck in some sort of void forever forced to repeat the exact same movement and knowing it and feeling the emotional anguish but unable to stop because I require it for this site to look nice.. the Ayler picture, it looks too good, he looks too cool, you can tell it's a moment in time, Byrne though, good lord, he looks like he wants to GET OUT LET ME OUT LET ME DO WHAT I WANT-
Ahem.. hi there! This is my little corner of safety on the web, the little thing I'm taking to making because I want to escape the cycle of constant doomification one finds in the greater internet these days. The world is a dark cold lonesome place these days; somehow, despite the increasing amount of syncronisation that we've had, the sense in which we are all togehter now, we are ever more lonesome, find it ever more difficult to find true connection. I want to change this, and I want this little place to also act as a sort of refuge for all my interests.
So, one might rationally ask, what do those interests consist of? There are two primary ones:
- Art:
That which guides me, that which moves me, that with which the rhythms of God come clear to me and that through which I can look into his eye away from the devil and bask in the glowing love of that iris. I well and truly love art more than just about anything in the world, and much of what I will speak of will be related to art, so be on the lookout for that. When I say art, I mean that in the broadest sense possible: music, which has been my great companion for a very long time, cinema which I find has a more immediate if difficult to dedicate to power, and literature, which illuminates the mind as much as it does the spirit. Art is the primary instrument of cultural analysis for me, and culture is the object of my utmost fascination, so that will remain a trend going forward.
- The Intellectual:
That with which I can understand the eye of God that art allows me to look into. Broadly, I've always been a very academically minded person, especially lately. I study computer science and have always been a bit of a math hobbyist, and I love philosophy as well. My philosophical outlook has been greatly influenced specifically by the post-structuralists and existentialists (Foucault, Kierkegaard, Camus, etc) and it has brought about for me much aid in making sense of all that is around me. I've also long been fascinated with history and my love of it tends to influence my view of the world, as in it, one finds the reflections of culture that continuously drive me evermore to keep learning. I am a man of thought and thought is one of the things that keeps me moving, which allows me to sharpen the mind and which gives great sustenance, for as the body requires food, so does the mind require thought as the spirit requires art.
There are many things about me you'll come to learn in this about me, and for that, feel free to go to the pages below:
- Music: where you can find my music essays: reviews, general ideas about the state of music currently or in the past, whatever crosses my mind in that realm
- Philosophy: where you can find my thoughts about thinking, as I love to refer to philosophy.. Usually I discuss matters on the existential end, I have a personal love for metaphysics and epistemology and they've always done me quite well.
- Movies: where I talk about cinema and the movies I love! pretty self-explaantory, very similar to the music page but for a different medium.
